While signs and symptoms of dementia can differ based on the cause, there are several common cognitive and psychological changes that occur. Common cognitive changes include; memory loss, difficulty communicating or finding words, and difficulty with complex tasks. Common psychological changes include; personality changes, inability to reason, inappropriate behavior, paranoia, agitation, and hallucinations (Mayo Clinic).
